Duncan calls Senate vote “the right thing” to do
DANVILLE—Vermilion County Treasurer Darren Duncan, conservative Republican candidate for Congress in the 15th Congressional District released the following statement today after the United States Senate voted to acquit President Donald J. Trump on impeachment charges brought by the House Democrats:
“The United States Constitution and the guidelines for impeachment were never intended to be used to settle political scores or overturn the results of an election.
Today, the United States Senate did the right thing acquitting President Donald J. Trump on both of Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrat political impeachment charges.
Now, I hope Congress will move on. Democrats should stop the partisan fights and allow the voters to have their say in November. And I believe they’ll say overwhelmingly that President Trump deserves a second term.”
The 15th Congressional District covers all or parts of 33 counties in central and southern Illinois. It stretches from Champaign and Ford Counties to the north, all the way south to the Ohio River and across to Madison County, just outside of St. Louis. The district includes Danville, Mattoon-Charleston, Effingham, Harrisburg, Metropolis, and Collinsville. The current Congressman, John Shimkus, is not seeking re-election.
